1936 June 16th Tuesday

Some clouds after dinner, just dust and a sprinkle of rain from N.W. and west, rest of day bright and warm. I got meals, slept in p.m. and laid down in a.m. for an hour for we got in at 11:40 from show at O’Kreek and I got up at 6 a.m., kneaded down bread but it wouldn’t rise so I never baked it until eve, then I burnt it but the biscuits tasted good. Will, Allie Walton, LeMoyne and Thomas finished working at calves late p.m. then put them down in river pasture. Allie went home to Pierce’s for the men cut some out to wean and put in round corral before taking the herd to pasture. Tom Whiting came in his V8 car to see if the men knew where their gray colt was and he is with horses. Richard was with him.

1946 June 16th Sunday

Will and I got ready and we left for Abbotts at 7 a.m., got Mrs. and Mr., Billie and Cora Ann and their lunch, left for McCormicks, got Abbott’s tire, and left for White Horse Ranch. Saw Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McCormick, for boys were still in bed. Had coffee and sandwiches and milk at Gregory, passed through Carter, Jordan, Wagner, Colome, Gregory, Burke, Herrick to St. Charles, then left 18 and went south 14 miles to Naper, Nebr., then on to White Horse Ranch, South and South East, to a very large crowd, also a carnival company with Ferris Wheel, merry-go-round, and souvenirs.

White Horse Ranch has a large arena, corrals and chutes, a stage to put on entertainments, a large barn used to put on shows. They have white horses, cattle, dogs, ducks, peacocks, pigs, chickens, coyote, rabbits, turkeys, mice and sheep. They have about 20 young men 14 to 18 years, and girls that perform on these white horses. They ride Roman, 2, 3 and 4 horses, 1 boy on these horses, a parade with flags, jump and dance, also a bull and cow and calf perform on teeter totters. Some Indians and a large flag came to center of arena, also. These Indians live north of Naper, Nebraska, and are in Gregory, Co., South Dakota. Hundreds of folks were there, but the only ones we talked to were Elmer and Mary Chauncey and Sonny (Collins) Arcoren from out here.

1956 June 16th Saturday

Some clouds and rained at noon so men got up 2 and part of a stack alfalfa on Wagner Land and Johnson to Mission to trade and Mr. Harp home for weekend to Ainsworth, Nebr. Was a nice rain in 2 showers, one at noon and one when we looked at cows up My Creek towards eve and was real watery so ground wet. Just at dark, Johnson came in and brought our mail so we were glad so read a lot.
