April 10: Will the Bridesmaid

~ Hidden Timber, South Dakota

From Hattie’s records for the Legion Post: On Thursday, April 10th, 1930, Will went to Winner, S. D. to be witness (bridesmaid, as he said), but he was [really] best man for Otto Rothley, was other witness to his Sister Eva’s marriage to Jay H. Tate of Hidden Timber, S. D.  The Rothleys are from Dallas, South Dakota. Mrs. Jerry Karnes, a sister, was present at marriage.

1954: The members of R.E.A. Corp. voted 190 to 117 to bond organization to get funds to build a $60,000 building for Office at Valentine, and Mission folks just of late got electricity from Valentine.

Sent March 13, 1909 from Ames, Nebraska to Miss Louise Whiting, Spencer, Nebr.
Dear Sister Louise, I was so glad to get your card last evening. I am going to start home Monday. Hope all are well. Love from your sister, Harriet W.

1955 (Easter Sunday): I roasted a duck and made dressing and sugarless gelatin with fruit, and we went to Furreys. A delicious Dinner of mashed potatoes, gravy, fried chicken, dressing, duck, homemade bread and butter, lettuce salad, pickles, strawberries and preserves, homemade ice-cream, Birthday Cake of three layers with white marble and devil’s food for Harry’s birthday next week. I got sick at my stomach and had to come home early.
