August 23, 1934

1934 August 23rd Thursday

Some rain, cold and cloudy and sun shone only at times during the day and temperature was at 56 in p.m. so was real chilly. Maggie had a fire in cook-stove and washed the clothes so wasn’t cold in the house. She also got meals, baked a cake and mopped the floors and sealed the pickles, tomato preserves, apples and plums. I cooked to can and also got these things ready. I slept in p.m. and when 38 qts. of stuff was canned I was all in in eve so Will wiped the dishes, for Maggie, Mr. Chauncey and Billie sharpened sickle, helped Will get seeder on wagon and went home. Fritz went with Jerome (Shorty) Jamison family to Rosebud Fair and Elmer took Mary Armbruster to the Fair. Will sowed Rye and chored in eve, got some wood in.
