Rained and sleet in night but so much rain so melted snow in a.m. Lightning last night and continued damp and rainy all day. The men fed stock as usual and in p.m. they made rope with Curt Elshire’s rope machine, made the rope out of twine. Sophie got meals, did all the necessary work and baked bread. I tried to make myself a hat but so far no success, so quit until to-morrow and played solitaire and slept in p.m. [Learn more about rope machines.]
