Feb. 14, 1943: Men raffled a Rhode Island Red Rooster

1923 Feb. 14th Wednesday

A bright day and still a cold N.W. wind but not as bad as yesterday. Will hauled feed over to hogs and in p.m. gathered wood and took to Knolls’ and got it sawed as we are out of fuel [all] but cobs and I am sewing so cobs are slow business putting in all the time. Nellie Whiting came yesterday on 1 o’clock to stay with Mamma for a while.

1933 Feb. 14th Tuesday

Bright cool day. The men chored and Will went to Ben’s for he was over yesterday and has been sick so Will and he hauled a load of hay for Ben, then brought a load of cane here and in p.m. Will went to store, got mail then, he helped clean barn and Wm Knoll and Walter Ableidinger from Spencer, Nebr. came in Walters car so they went to Ben’s and got things Ben had to sell, then in eve Wm went along with them to O’Kreek Legion Meeting. I staid home and cleaned for Sale and meals to-day. Jay Tate came this a.m. and it was cold so he fixed a chair and worked at Barn in p.m. Roy hauled 1 load hay and 1 of cane.

1943 Feb. 14th Sunday

After cold morning was nice day. Will and Van Epps chored, gave cattle cake, then Will and I got ready to go to Floyd Rodee home at Hare Industrial School, Mission, to Legion Meeting. I took Pineapple Banana Salad and a Stew. There was scalloped dishes of potatoes, macaroni, more stew, baked beans, jello orange, 2 kinds, lime, and carrot and pineapple, pies apple and pumpkin and sour-cream, rolls, white and dark bread, butter, coffee and cream a plenty. Men raffled a Rhode Island Red Rooster given by Mrs. Clarence Sell. Jim Gee won it, gave to Art Estes, he in turn gave to Aux. We sold to highest bidder, which was Mrs. Lucy Gee, she gave it to Mrs. Art Estes and Mrs. Estes left it for Rodees’. We got $2.90 out of it for men gave us theirs also. Those there were Messrs. and Mesdames Tate, Whitcher, Rodee, Mosher, Nelson, Anderson, Jansen, Lein, Gruin, Sell, Estes, Dowd, Jim Gee, Mrs. Lucy Gee, Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Branch–, Raymond Tate, 2 Lein boys, 2 Rodee Girls, 1 boy, Girl & boy from Gruins.

Valentine’s Day

Wales 2nd Wedding Anniversary

Bright, nice day. Men gave cattle hay and went to send Tire and Tube back to Wards, St. Paul, Minn. and send a sample Alfalfa Seed to test at Agronomy Testing Seed [Laboratory], Brookings, S.D. mailed at Hidden Timber, P.O. Sent $1.50 Money Order to Agronomy Testing [Laboratory] Brookings, S.D. They got mail and a card saying 14 more days before we get records from Sears. I washed dishes, sewed on everyday dress and let hem out of 2 everyday dresses. Wales to Mission this eve to Show, their 2nd Anniversary of Marriage. Will and I played Canasta this eve after reading. I got eats and usual Pastimes.
