1923 Jan. 16th Tuesday.
A cold south-wind all day and evening but bright most of day. Will hauled corn over the river and got rye and loaded oats and after dinner took to the Mill to get [it] ground and came home via Sherlocks and got a load of hay, then took alfalfa over the river and I went along to get water. I shrinked gingham and cut out petticoats and other work.

1933 Jan. 16th Monday.
Was cloudy, stormy, cold, not any snow but a real winter wind and very raw. Will chored and he and Roy put 3 loads hay in barn and that filled it complete. They fed calves one, put some on rack and turned stock in field to stay as all hay in now. Wm has the Flu but is getting better so burnt old papers all day in heater as he assorted them. Ben Clausen was here after supper for awhile.

1943 Jan. 16th Saturday.
Started to snow last night, continued this forenoon, was below zero, sun shone near noon but only for awhile, then later in afternoon [there was] sun a long time and thermometer rose to around 20 above. Elsie and I got meals and I baked 3 pie-shells, 3 apple pies, angel-food cake, dressed a chicken, laid down in p.m. for cough still a nuisance. Elsie mopped kitchen, Pantry, hall to basement wash-room and swept front-room, in fact got everything ready for our party to-morrow. Wm Van Epps and Henry Arcorne chored and went in Van Epps car to Wagner and got some things. They had a time to start it, so first W.D. went horseback to feed cattle at Wagner Shed this forenoon, and he cleaned barn, also hauled out-door toilet with manure. Henry cut a lot of old posts for kindling and put it in basement and made an ash-tray out of a piece of board. Mr. and Mrs. Wm Abbott had been to Whiting Store, came by here to play us a game of cards, but Will was at Valentine to have his tooth finished. This is our 25th wedding anniversary but we plan a party to-morrow but it is cold and snowy, that is snow on ground [so] that no one can came, I am afraid.

1953 Jan. 16th Friday.
Bright day and cold but got above freezing. Men gave cattle hay and Dan took his Pick Up to Valentine to get the clutch fixed but no do at Studebaker Garage and he said that Calvin was better, fever none this eve so may come home to-morrow. This [is] our 35th Wedding Anniversary. We were married West-Side [of] this front-room by Fr. Henry Grothe, St. Francis, Todd Co., S. D. who came in Single Seat No Top Buggy with 2 horses. Wm Whiting [was] our best man. Phoebe Cecil Bordeaux was bridesmaid. Dave, Nellie, Mary, Harriet and Jeanette. I don’t know if Harriet was born yet. Nellie Larmer, Lee & Boyd, Edward L. Whiting Sr., my father, Jack Simpkins, a freighter from Carter to Valentine with wagon and Horses got here. A Blizzard for 3 days but Bill & Dave went horseback to Dave’s South [of] here 2 miles [to] feed stock.
