January 14, 1923: I looked for a nurse to care for Papa

1923 Jan. 14th Sunday.

A bright nice day and warm for was chilly yesterday. Will had chores and I did up work and baked a pumpkin pie but had a headache so napped while Will hauled alfalfa and it got a little better, so I went along to town. Will took Louise out, and I looked for a nurse, none in town, to care for Papa.

Bright, cool day. Will chored and he and Ray put [up] hay in p.m. and quit early as he had to get in stock. Wm has the Flu but walked to barn in p.m. but no stay. I got meals and rested in p.m. for I am still all in.

1934 Jan. 14th Thursday.

Sun shone, rained a little last night but day was real March weather, warm and damp. Elsie and I got meals and she washed curtains and ironed them to-day and hung in south room upstairs. I mended Will’s nightshirt, Fine-combed my hair, took a bath, put clean bedding on Will’s and my bed, that is sheets and pillow slips, laid down in p.m. for my cough still hangs on. Will went to Valentine to get his tooth fixed and came home before chore time for he fed the chickens. Henry and Wm Van Epps chored and went to Wagner house, put most of wall-board on ceiling.

Snow all day and a strong wind last night from N.W. must [have] been nearly a blizzard but not much snow, just snowing lightly. Men caked cattle and Will cleaned carpet in front-room and put new Mattress on his bed. Dan hauled the old [mattress] down River to Junk Near Bull Pen Fence or it is a cave in from River Bank. Meals and some solitaire and sewed on brown every day dress. Sewed an outing flannel Lining for patch quilt Top and Started to put or cover a wool Batt for Will’s Bed. He slept cold last night so I will put more Blanket and Quilt under his sheet now.
