October 14, 1941: Will thought he had no dinner

1941 Oct. 14th, Tuesday

Was a nice day. I got meals, fried chicken, baked Pumpkin and Blackberry Pies, laid down in p.m., played solitaire. Will chored, helped Forgey take his cattle to Jackson School, for Mrs. and child and hired girl brought Mr. Forgey here this morning in Pick Up, and Saddle horse they unloaded east My Creek and left at once for home east [of] here in Tripp Co. about 20 miles, but had to go around road to north [of] Kriz’s to near Bartleson’s in Tripp Co., then south to Willow Creek, their home, on account [of] this Girl [is] a poor driver, but he took cattle direct east. Mike and Clarence loaded oats and pulled off in forenoon in 2 rack bunches and Hank Haukaas came at noon with combine tractor and trailer wagon, so Will and Hank fed combine and cut twine holding bundles and Clarence put bundles to combine. Mike hauled in oats and kept straw away from combine. Jack Underwood who rides for Bokeman at Pierce Place came and went out to help men cut bundles and Will thought he had no dinner, so sent Mike in for a blackberry-pie when he came in with a load of oats. Will went to Whiting store to get groceries right after he got Mike and Clarence started on hauling oats.
