November 18: Didn’t Have Much Eats

~ Hidden Timber, South Dakota

November 18, 1923: A bright nice day. Ed and family went home. Will went to American Cattle Co., William to Jake’s. They came back at noon, also Jake, Cora, Lawrence, Mabel, Neva, Vivian, Sydney, Patsy, Vera and John and Dave, Phoebe, Mary, Jeannette and Harriet, Tom and Thomas Jr. and Stanley and Sadie and Madge and Harold in evening and 2 men here and Roland Wilcutts. We didn’t have much eats.

November 18, 1925, Wednesday: Was bright but dusty, strong N. W. wind. Will went to cornfield, got 28 bu. corn. Louise to school and all scholars there. I fixed cake and chicken and wrote order over again for groceries to Montgomery Ward. Geo. Smith stopped on way home to White River. He had been at Wisenbergers and Wagners and wanted to sell Will his corn.

November 18, 1927, Friday: Cold, cloudy day and some snow, real large flakes awhile in p.m. but cleared off in the evening enough to see the stars. Will went to the store and fixed fence and late evening got a load of corn at Wagner’s. Dave hauled in 2 loads of hay, as he has been the last few days from the west of Jake Wisenbergers. I made pies and got eats for baskets ready, and Louise came home at 3:30 p.m. and fixed baskets for us, and Dave, Will and I went in the wagon, and she walked over the social at the school-house. Charles Pierce and Frank Schmidt came for water this a.m., as they are all fixing the school-house for the program.
