March 23: Jitney and Lady Baltimore Cake

~ Hidden Timber, South Dakota

1928: A bright, warm day, in fact hot. I just did ordinary work, and Mrs. Arcoren and Mary and Baby Elmer came, so she and I caught 23 hens and one rooster for them. Will and Dave got 15 bu. potatoes at John Wisenberger’s in a.m., and went to hay field in p.m. Louise took our jitney and got Mrs. Ben Fitch, and went to Teachers Meeting at Mission. Had trouble, so at last hill she tightened up low and got mail.

1942: I visited with Anthia for she and Loretta Janice walked to creek, and Will and Gerald got them. They went home in our Model A (Jeep) after supper.

1950: Betty and I baked, and she put 4 layers together of a Lady Baltimore Cake with Raisins, Nuts and Powdered Sugar. We will ice top later. I made some Chocolate Bits Cookies out of egg yolks left from the Lady Baltimore Cake.
